Nordfriedhof cemetery
An important cultural and historical site
Jena’s Nordfriedhof cemetery is not only one of the most picturesque cemeteries in Germany, it’s also an important cultural and historical site.
Home to one of Germany’s first crematoriums, the cemetery features examples from 100 years of burial culture. Many famous local residents are buried here, including chemist and inventor Otto Schott, physicist Ernst Abbe, politician Grete Unrein and publisher Eugen Diederichs.
